Creative Northland Digital Impact Project 2025
AwhiWorld has a long history of collaboration with Creative Northland. With the support of Foundation North we deepened this partnership by providing a series of events, workshops and exhibitions to build capacity in the area of AI in Te Taitokerau.
This has been a key partnership in our ongoing Strange Intelligences Lab research project.
Leadership Workshops for the Creative Sector
Two workshops for arts leaders built knowledge about AI and its impact on our sector and then provided skills in leveraging it for funding applications.
Dr Maggie Buxton, supported by Angela Rowe from (Creative Northland) delivered these events for free supporting strategical and also tactical implementation of artificial intelligence.
Echoes of the Algorithm Capacity Building Exhibition
Over a series of months, Kim and Maggie worked with Angela and Lenny Murapeanga to support emerging creatives with AI capacity buliding.
AwhiWorld first delivered two workshops to around 16 practitioners and then a set of four clinics to this same group to fine-tune work for an exhibition in the Quest Art Space (Whangārei CBD).
We also added in an open clinic available to practitioners in the wider community who wanted support with projects or business initiatives utilising creative technology.
The exhibition opened for Art Beat Month on 8th April and had a wide range of material practices represented.
Open Studio
A final open studio at Awhiland rounded out the programme, allowing us to interact directly with the public and support art lovers to understand AI and its impact on communities through chats and discussions with AwhiWorld staff.
