Smart Textiles: Elder Maker Workshops

E-Textile Maker Hubs with the Elderly

SMART TEXTILEs WORKSHOPS | TRADITIONAL AND EMERGING KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE | MAKER HUBS FOR ELDERLY

A series of exchanges and workshops weaving knowledge across traditional and smart textiles practices.

Charlotte Alexander shared her research into smart textiles with elderly rest home residents. In return,  resident Margarite Stephens demonstrates tatting a skill she learnt from her mother. The visit was designed to keep residents up to date with what is happening in the world and help them find ways for their own practices to find a place and remain relevant.

Donna Cleveland and Kim Newall also conducted workshops in the use of Arduino in textiles with assistance from Jenna Gavin.

These workshops complemented the Augmenting Elders workshops which was a long term project experimenting with Augmented Reality.
