Glenn Edney discusses his place-based practice with Dr Maggie Buxton as part of the PlantLab interview series.
Glenn is an ocean ecologist and researcher, underwater naturalist, professional diver, sailor, photographer and writer. He is also a practising Deep Ecologist with a Masters’s degree in Holistic Science from Schumacher College and Plymouth University, UK.
His ongoing research is focused on understanding the Ocean as a living being and the role she plays as the primary life support system for our planet. He also has a strong interest in bringing together traditional indigenous Ocean knowledge and modern scientific ecological understanding. This interest has evolved into a PhD Research project within the Māori Studies dept at Auckland University, titled: Connecting to the Mauri of the Moana: Using a community-based, qualitative monitoring methodology as a process to connect with and consider the mauri of local marine ecosystems.
Glenn works to regenerate kelp forests, support local monitoring and educate a diverse range of organisations and practitioners on ways they can embrace and support all things water in Tai Tokerau Northland .
