BioSignals First NZ Milestone Achieved

With the launch of the Alternative Reality Gardening Lab our bioSignals research could be tested with the public.

Our Central Garden Lab—the project’s hub—had several projects in some form of display so that we could test public reaction and try out some ideas in real-time. bioSignals was one of these, with several elements visible and able to be shown to those who visit.

We have a large visual projection that is a conglomeration of signals from the three islands turned into a contemporary work. It was inspired by the work of the Philippines team, which is experimenting with rope in its current research. We also used this rope metaphor throughout one part of our Central Garden space and asked Reva Mendes (one of our Awhi Incubator participants) to weave some Harakeke fibre to add to the mix.

In addition to the rope metaphor, we had a screen displaying the various signals in a more informational form using circles as well as the actual ADAFruit server dashboards.

Kim also displayed his AI images, inspired by the project and our general research into AI, plants, signals, and hardware.

(Please note that this was not a dedicated exhibition for bioSignals; it was an open lab event that was part of another project. We were working while the public interacted and learnt—and visited other parts of our space with dedicated installations and lab experiences by our Awhi Incubator Participants)
